Honestly, I think there are plenty of simple ways to manage household waste, and the truth is, everyone knows about the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The problem is, not many actually follow through. It’s just easier to throw things away because it’s convenient, especially with all the single-use plastics we use every day.
To make a real change, we need to shift the mindset, and I believe it starts with kids.
In my house, we reuse things like jars and cardboard boxes. For example, my mom keeps glass jars to store spices or leftovers. She says she learned it from my grandmother, and now we’re doing the same. It's a small habit, but it saves money and reduces waste — and it carries a bit of family wisdom, too.
If we want to inspire others, we’ve got to start small. Don’t expect to fix everything overnight. Maybe begin by sorting your trash — plastic, paper, food waste — and go from there. Schools and social media can really help spread the word. If kids pick up these habits early, they can influence their parents, grandparents, and even their own kids in the future.
At the end of the day, every little bit helps. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but if everyone makes a small effort, we can make a real difference.
